like im aware that all my long rants end with accessibility, but really think about it took Sun investing in GNOME 2 for Linux GUI accessibility to become a thing, and how the case is basically the same today. This is a systemic failure of open source even worse than the whole openssl fiasco.
If there's any honest to god tongue in cheek argument for capitalism, 'but who would build the accessible GUIs' would be it.

the real power of open source development is that it only takes a few dedicated people to make something happen, especially for busywork. there's no cost benefit analysis, most projects will accept free work too. you can actually help your neighbor.
but this really amplifies just how little the community cares about disabled people, with a few key people doing almost all the thankless work to hold things together in a working state, often employed by businesses

So far, I've adapted the example in the manual to sit in the corner of the screen, have a brown background, and use a small font.
It's going to take a lot of work to get to the good stuff. This custom system uses no GUI framework at all - it's just draw functions with a little bit of API. Even things like putting options on buttons requires faking everything by drawing lines, and changing them when clicked. -
Facebook will pay more than $300 each to 1.6M Illinois users in settlement | Ars Technica

bet you didn't expect that last hot take, huh? not so easy to check boxes is it? *uneccessary aggression towards people trying to use open source*
for real though, at least pressure upstream to be accessible. do you know how disappointing it is to report bugs to years-old platforms about how you can't even use dropdown boxes without a mouse? these are actually very easy things to solve, it's just busy work that nobody is asking for

If trump ever gets convicted by a jury he'll prolly just ask the judge to "find more jurors, you can just say that, you know, you recalculated." Then accuse the prosecution of bringing in Democrat jurors in a suitcase and that his attorneys weren't allowed to observe deliberations.
